Jerry earned three letters in football and played on the 1964 Big Ten and 1965 Rose Bowl Championship teams. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1966 and Master of Science Degree in 1967, both in Industrial Engineering from the U-M. Currently, he is Chief Executive Officer of Mader & Associates, alternative energy consultants, and founder and Energy Research Director of the Transportation Energy Center at U-M. Jerry is an entrepreneur who in 1972 founded Applied Science, Inc., in Ann Arbor. In 1979, he founded the Electric Power Research Institute of Palo Alto, California's electric transportation program. He created the Electric Vehicle Development Corporation (EVDC) that pioneered the commercial introduction of electric-powered vans built in collaboration with General Motors. He founded the Advanced Battery Task Force to advise the California Air Resources Board. In Michigan, he served as the Director of Advanced Energy Technology at the Center for Automotive Research and in 2004 joined the University of Michigan to create its Transportation Energy Center. Today, Jerry's extensive expertise in the energy field continues to advance the commercialization of advanced energy technologies in Michigan.
