Red Simmons was the first coach in the history of the women's track and field program.

Red Simmons celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, April 19th at noon at the Junge Family Center at 333 E. Stadium Blvd. in Ann Arbor. It is open to the public. In lieu of flowers please make donations made to the University of Michigan Women's Track. All donations will go towards the creation of the Red Simmons Room located in the new Track Building. If you are attending the event there will be a donation box available or mail it to Women's Track at 1000 S. State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109.
