Mission Statement

Since 1981, the Ufer Award has been presented each year to a Letterwinners M Club member in recognition for his or her outstanding service to the University of Michigan Athletic Program.

Chip Warrick Named 2007 Ufer Award Winner

Woodward A. “Chip” Warrick, Jr. is the 2007 winner of the Ufer Award, presented annually since 1981 by the Letterwinners M Club in honor of an individual for his or her outstanding service to the University of Michigan athletic department.

Over the last seven decades, Warrick has built up a long list of accomplishments at and support of the University of Michigan. He was a member of the Michigan wrestling teams of 1943 and 1944; graduated from Michigan’s engineering school in 1946, and the Michigan Business School in 1947; was president of the UofM Club of Cincinnati in 1961 and 1962; and president of the Letterwinners M Club in 1967 (at which time the club was called the Varsity M Club).

Warrick was also instrumental in the move to admit women into the Lettewinners M Club and onto the club’s executive board, and in the creation of the Ufer Award, which happens to be in honor of Warrick’s college roommate, Bob Ufer.

In the early ‘60s, Warrick also helped develop the pipeline of strong Michigan football
recruits from the Cincinnati area by helping to land Bob Timberlake, Mel Anthony, Carl
Ward and other M football stars. In the decades to follow, many Michigan football
greats originated in southwestern Ohio.

More recently, Warrick provided significant support for Michigan’s new and much
improved wrestling facilities.
